I forgot how fast two year olds can run on those tiny little legs. I spent plenty of time chasing my last two year old, who is now five, and still have to chase him on occasion. Three years later, along came our sweet baby girl and now she is keeping me on my toes.
We were sitting in the gym bleachers watching our 5th grader's basketball game last night. As I often do, I was chatting with a couple of moms sitting in front of me (imagine that!). Next thing I know, someone says, hey, that's Mary running across the basketball court. Yes, that was my kid and yes, I was THAT mom. The ref. blew the whistle to stop the game until I got her off the court so she wouldn't get mowed down by 10 year old boys. Oh geez. She was racing over to see her other brothers who were sitting in the bleachers behind the basket. Apparently they had a better view than the awesome mid-court seat I had.
Mommy watches Mary, end of story, right? Not so much. She escaped from the stands two more times to make dashes across the court but thankfully I was trailing right behind and the ref. didn't have to get involved and stop the game. Oh my goodness! If I picked her up or tried to hold her in my lap, she screamed. Loud. Finally, I resorted to letting her run around in the hallway outside the gym. Thankfully I knew the people running the concession stand so they weren't surprised to see a two year old pop up from time to time. She was all over the place.
With daddy sitting on the bench to assistant coach, it looks to be a long and crazy season of chasing a tiny, adorable.....and fast two year old.
On a good note, I did see our 5th grader score his first ever basket in this his third season of basketball. Way to go!
