Calling in Sick

It is tricky for a stay at home mom to call in sick.  For starters, who do you call?  In my case, I would call my husband, of course, or talk to him in the morning before he left for work about how I am feeling.  Unless I am truly not able to function (which thankfully doesn't happen very often), I hate for him to take a day off and depending on his schedule, he may not be able to stay home and take care of the kids.  Now what?

Well, in the case of my friend yesterday, she called a few friends.  We were able to help out with her three children so she could go to the doctor without any "helpers" and then stay home to rest for the day kid-free.  It was wonderful to witness the compassion of neighbors and it reinforced the saying, "it takes a village to raise a family".  We can't do this all on our own.

As a mom, I've learned you can't be afraid to ask for help.  People will amaze you with their kindness and generosity if you give them a chance.

  1. Jen, you are amazing. It is such a tricky thing with no sick days. Thank you for taking Hannah for me. You were my life saver. Great minds think alike. I used the village analogy in my blog post, too. People are amazingly compassionate and kind - just like you, my dear friend.
