After a particularly busy day this week, I sat down on the couch with a cup of tea wearing my giant, fuzzy purple slippers, comfy pants and red sweatshirt. I was a vision of loveliness, ok, more like a vision of a tired mama ready to put up her feet for a minute or two. I got to sit for about 5 minutes before one of the kids came along asking for my help. And it started to dawn on me there is really no end in sight to the constant feeling of "hustle and bustle" in my life. This term is often used during the holiday season and my days certainly fit the description. I have been hustling and bustling all month to shop for and wrap gifts, decorate the house, bake cookies, send out Christmas cards, attend parties and programs at school, etc. You all know the feeling, it's December!
I keep thinking, "when we get through this ________ (fill in the blank with a day or activity), things will settle down". For instance, when I get the Christmas cards done, things will slow down. Well, it sounds reasonable but 5 more things are added to the list while I'm working on the cards so the reprieve never materializes. As much as I would like to contribute all this activity to the holidays, much of it is really because I have a household of 6 people to run. No complaints, just something I need to accept and keep in mind as I write yet another to do list. So I'll be hustling and bustling all year long and sneaking in those moments with a cup of tea and my purple slippers whenever I can.
