You've Got Your Hands Full

I hear this phrase from a well-meaning person at least once a day.  It's difficult to go anywhere with three boys and not get noticed.  Especially when they're all trying to scan everything in your cart at the price check scanner at Target or complaining in an "outside" voice about how could it is in the freezer aisle at the grocery store or playing tag in the check-out line while the little one is pushing all the buttons on the credit card machine.

Often this phrase is followed up with, "my mom raised four boys" or "I have three of my own".  These strangers are offering their support and solidarity right there in the produce aisle saying that yes, you can do this and you will survive.  Thank you because some days I'm not so sure.  When it takes 15 minutes just to get in the mini-van to leave for the store, another 10 to decide who is going to sit where in the cart and 5 more minutes to refresh their memories on the rules for behaving in the store.

So yes, now that you mention it, I do have my hands full.  Full of endless energy and curiosity and wonder and joy.  Join me as I chronicle all the bits and pieces that fill my hands and days as a mother.  I won't promise anything too profound, just the insights and stories of a mom with three little boys who keep her hands full for the best reasons in the world.

  1. I remember years ago a younger woman saying to me "Oh, you're just a mom and a housewife. Now at the age of 67 I am thankful that I was blessed with that "privilege".
